Many times this week, we have talked about what fear is, how to conquer it, and how to have a good healthy fear of God. Now, let’s look at one more important aspect of fear…. the opposite of fear.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18
Drum roll, please. The opposite of fear is LOVE. Love casts out fear. As 1 John says, fear involves torment. Only fear would have us standing paralyzed in place or causing us to have trouble breathing. These are tools of the enemy. The enemy wants us to be fearful. He does not love or care about us. However, the opposite of this fear is love. God’s Love. God does care about us. He loves us. He does not want to be fearful. This love instills confidence and power in our being. We are not to be timid or wary of other people or things. We are God’s Children. His chosen. That should be enough to calm our fears and give us faith.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7.
God does not give us fear. In looking at my children, I realize that fear is taught. They do not automatically know to be fearful. Fear is given to us by the enemy. Do we accept this gift? Absolutely not. It is not a gift of any kind. Looking to God, we see that He gives us power, love, and a sound mind. We can defeat fear that the enemy has given to us by completely embracing God and His gifts. God gives us everything we need spiritually to face any trial or threat. He also gives us love to care for others and a sound mind to defeat any confusion or chaos.
Embrace these gifts from God. Put them into practice. Remember God is in control and has given you everything you need to get through any frightening situation. Take time now and pray; thanking God for giving us everything we need to defeat fear and move forward. Start today with the opposite of fear…Love!!!
